Your first recovery walk doesn’t have to prove anything

Hello Reader,

If you’re rebuilding after an illness, injury, burnout, or a difficult season of life, your first walk can bring up a surprising question:

How much should I be able to do by now?

You don’t have to answer that question on your first walk. Start with a distance or amount of time that feels manageable for you. Notice how you feel during the walk and afterward. That gives you useful information for deciding what to do next.

I’ve put together a free three-video Walking for Health and Fitness Recovery Series to help you approach that process with more confidence. We’ll look at how to begin, why motivation alone may not carry you through, and how to build a walking practice you can return to.

You can use the idea in this email even if you never watch a video: let your next walk be a starting point, not a test.

If you’re recovering from a medical condition or injury, follow the guidance you’ve received from your healthcare professional as you return to activity.

Walk on,
